Fishing and Report

Lake Winnibigoshish (Big Winnie) is world famous for its outdoor opportunities. Fishing is second to none on this year-round fishery. Walleye, Northern, Perch, and the state record Musky all inhabit these waters. If wilderness in a modern setting is what you are looking for, Winnie delivers. The lake has very little inhabited shoreline which give one a feeling of yesteryear. Once you have experienced the lake you will want to rediscover it year after year.

Report for opening May 14th. 2011

The day was like most opening days.  Cold, I mean cold, windy, NE 15-30, and overcast.  The water temperature was a balmy 47 degrees when we started fishing.  By noon, it had dropped to 46.  This scenario is a walleye fisherman's nightmare.  You can't expect to catch anything.  Oh, maybe a few late spawning perch and a northern or two.

Today is the day where you just marvel at the fishery Lake Winnibigoshish has become!  Most everyone who fished caught walleyes.  Jigs and minnows were the ticket as usual.   The fish were mostly shallow, 7-10'.  They were caught up the west side.  I heard good reports from all over the lake.  Our boat released 7 fish in the slot 17-23".  We also had plenty for a fish fry.  I even heard some reports of limits coming in.   It wasn't fast action, but fairly steady.

Why anyone would go walleye fishing anywhere but this lake is beyond me.  Just think how good the fishing will be when the water warms up to 60 degrees.  Make your plans now for your Memorial Day fishing trip.  Check our availability and give us a call.  You will not be disappointed.  Check out our resort specials.  Just added to give you additional value for your trip.
